“they” “say” i’m on “vacation”

Ok, “they” is me. I’m sitting here in the living room at my in-laws house, deep off in the community in Brooklyn, NY. Sam is next to me. Micah is upstairs taking a nap with Grandma Muslimah. Kafi is in the kitchen being her beautiful fine self. Tomorrow we take an early flight to Miami, then make our way to the Carnival Valor for Sam’s cruise, very generously provided by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I just asked Sam if he’s ever been on a big boat before. Of course, I should know, but I’m just talking to him like he’s my little man. He answered, “Gigantic?” (His vocabulary is increasing.) Jeremy Del Rio came over this morning (he lives within ten miles of this house) for the fab breakfast of grits, turkey bacon, and spicy shrimp – I live well when I’m here. I think I’ve figured out that the World Cup final takes place EXACTLY while we are boarding the ship. It will be me and 800 other crazies crammed around the Deck Bar, I gather, waiting for Zidane to pull off the magic one more time. I just looked at the boat’s Spa Deck… dig it. I worked out four times this week, three times at the gym (on the machine twice, swimming once), and once I went swimming at Santa Monica Beach at sunset. I plan to work out daily in the ship’s gym. My in-laws have wi-fi now, so I’m in the lower living room connected at high speed – I’ve dreamed of this day since Kafi and I got married in the 90s.

I seriously doubt you’ll find 800 crazies trying to watch soccer in that place.

    Hey Rudy!

Did I call it or what? I got right the tie. That it would be decided on penalty kicks. That Italy would win. That a French player would miss the goal on a PK. I only failed regarding the score. 1-1, not 0-0.
