• No joke. For a chapter, not the national.
• I said no.
• I told my staff. They are beyond amused.

My senior year in college, I was on the planning committee for Women’s History Month. We sponsored an event called “Abortion: An Alternative Perspective,” and invited a 16 year-old abortion survivor and her mother to come speak on campus.

Here is some interesting food for thought…
not to be cliche’ but what would Jesus do? What could a Christian do on the board of Planned Parenthood? I am sure the members of the PP Board think all Christians are fanatical kooks that blow up buildings and such. What kind of influence for the kingdom could you be?
Just offering another train of thought.
Another note, it speaks well of a Christian to be asked to serve on a board of an organization whose work would appear to be counter to a Christian point of view. Bob Lupton’s Urban Perspective this month talks about a guy Bob used to work with that often said, “I can’t be no Chriistian but I love me some Jesus!”
A person that lives up to the stereotypical label “Christian” could and would never be asked to serve on the PP board. But I suspect that someone who simply loves me some Jesus probably could.

David’s comments notwithstanding, the local board is likely unclear on the concept of linkage to and action on behalf of the moral ownership–essential to the substance of board work.
It would however be interesting to have a forum in which there was ongoing and respectful conversation between those for whom Planned Parenthood represents their point of view and someone “who loves me some Jesus.”
